A Chilled and Refreshing Acai Bowl Recipe That Is Loaded With Antioxidants!
This acai bowl recipe is the perfect way to begin your summer mornings!😎 It is super healthy and it’s loaded with vitamins, fiber and antioxidants. You don’t need to worry about what to eat for breakfast when the eggs run out. It’s ready in 10 minutes and it’s way too easy to prepare!
What really is acai?
Well, acai is a type of berry just like blueberries or blackberries. They are impressively nutritious berries that are rich in antioxidants and high in fiber and healthy fats. They claim to be helpful for cholesterol, weight loss and detox among several other health benefits! In fact, acai berries may be classified as a superfood.
Due to their short shelf life, they may not be freshly available. But you are likely to find them in the frozen section of your grocery store or in a powdered or dried form. I have used frozen acai berries for this recipe.
How to make the Acai Bowl Recipe?
Before we begin, it is important to know that preparing an acai bowl involves pureeing frozen fruit. So, you would need to freeze sliced banana in addition to the berries for this recipe.
For the banana, I highly recommend slicing it before freezing as it’ll save you the time and unnecessary effort of ‘peeling’ the frozen skin and then slicing it.
Other great ingredients of this acai bowl recipe include kefir and almond milk. Kefir tastes just like regular yogurt but it’s way healthier! It’s great for your gut health as it is loaded with probiotics and it improves your immune system. It is also low in calories and rich in protein.
Almond milk has several benefits over regular milk and honestly, it just tastes better in an acai bowl! It is lower in calories and higher in protein and calcium than regular milk! What else could you ask for?!
The next step is simple. Just add frozen acai, frozen berries, frozen banana slices, honey, kefir and almond milk to a blender and blend until it is reaches a smooth consistency.
Some blenders might take a while to puree this, but have patience, it’ll get there! I personally use this blender and love it. It blends and purees anything and everything like a champ. It has lasted me over 5 years now and it’s still going strong!
Next, just transfer the puree to your serving bowl and it’s topping time! 😊
I enjoy fresh fruits and granola in my acai bowls. So, for this I used sliced banana, strawberries, blackberries and blueberries. Granola adds a great balance of something slightly sweet and crispy!
Tips and Substitutions
- For the frozen banana, choose slightly overripe bananas. They are more flavorful!
- Be patient while pureeing the frozen berries. You may need to keep mixing it after every few seconds of running the blender to get a smooth consistency.
- To make the acai bowl recipe vegan, you can substitute the kefir with vegan kefir which is made with coconut milk. The coconut would add a great flavor to the acai bowl.

Acai Bowl
Ingredients
- ⅓ cup acai berries (frozen)
- 1 cup mixed berries (frozen blueberries and blackberries)
- 1 cup banana (about 1½ bananas, sliced and frozen)
- 2 tsp honey
- ⅓ cup kefir
- ⅓ cup almond milk
Toppings
- 1 tbsp granola
- 2 fresh strawberries
- 1 fresh kiwi
- ½ fresh banana (sliced)
- ¼ cup mixed berries
Instructions
- Combine the frozen acai berries, frozen mixed berries, frozen banana, honey, kefir and almond milk in a blender and puree until it reaches a smooth consistency. You can add more almond milk if the puree is too thick.
- Transfer the puree to your serving bowl and top it with granola, sliced banana, strawberries, other mixed berries like blackberry and blueberry, and sliced kiwi. Enjoy!
